Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. The old machines still switch on, but they no longer get security fixes, and that is a real problem for any office that handles M-Pesa statements, payroll, client files or KRA returns on them. If your team is still working on a five or six year old tower, this is the year to replace it.
This guide covers the 14 office desktops we stock in Nairobi from Dell, HP and Lenovo. We explain what to look for in a business PC, compare every model side by side with its price, and show which one suits a reception desk, an accounts team, a design studio or a fleet managed by an IT department. All prices are in KES and exclude VAT.
What to look for in an office desktop
Most office work is email, browsers, Microsoft Office, an accounting package such as QuickBooks or Sage, and video calls. You do not need a gaming PC for that, but you do need a machine that stays quick for four or five years. Six things decide that:
- Processor. A Core i3 is fine for a reception desk or a single app. A Core i5 is the sweet spot for most staff. A Core i7 or Core Ultra 7 is for heavy spreadsheets, design work and people who keep 30 tabs open. Intel’s own processor naming guide explains the letters after the number: a “T” chip is power optimised, an “H” chip is a high performance mobile part.
- RAM. Windows 11 needs at least 4GB of RAM and a TPM 2.0 chip. Treat 4GB as the floor, not the target. For daily office work we recommend 8GB, and 16GB for people who multitask hard.
- Storage. An SSD boots in seconds and opens files far faster than a spinning hard drive. A 1TB hard drive gives you more space for less money, but it feels slower every day.
- Case size. A tower has the most room for upgrades. A small form factor (SFF) case sits on a shelf or under the monitor. A mini PC is small enough to tuck behind the screen and frees up the whole desk.
- Operating system. Some units come with Windows 11 installed by Encom, some ship with Ubuntu Linux, and some come with no operating system for firms that already hold volume licences. Check this before you compare prices.
- Remote management. If an IT team looks after many PCs across branches, Intel vPro matters. Through Intel Active Management Technology, vPro PCs can be reached even if the OS is down, patched after hours and repaired without a site visit.

Dell desktops in Kenya: OptiPlex, Vostro and Dell Pro
OptiPlex has been the default office PC in Kenyan banks, schools and government offices for years. Dell has now retired the OptiPlex name along with XPS, Inspiron, Latitude and Precision, and new business machines sit under the Dell Pro name. That is why you will see both OptiPlex and Dell Pro towers in our range. They are the same family of business desktops at different points in time.
Entry level: OptiPlex 3080 and OptiPlex 3000 SFF
The OptiPlex 3080 Micro Tower at KES 50,400 is our most affordable desktop. It pairs a 10th Gen Core i3-10105 with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, and comes with a keyboard and mouse. It suits a reception desk, a till point or a single line of business app.
For KES 9,600 more, the OptiPlex 3000 SFF moves to a newer Core i3-12100, a chip with 4 cores, 8 threads and a 4.3 GHz turbo, plus 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD in a compact case. For a basic office machine, that SSD alone makes it the better daily experience.
Mid range: Vostro 3030 and Dell Pro Tower
The Dell Vostro 3030 MT is built for small businesses. It starts at KES 72,000 with a Core i5-12400 and goes up to a Core i7-12700, all with 8GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and built-in Wi-Fi, which saves you running a cable to every desk. The Dell Pro Tower QCT1250 is Dell’s new business tower, with a choice of Core Ultra 5 235 or Core Ultra 7 265 from KES 98,600.
Top end: OptiPlex 7000, OptiPlex 7020 and Dell Pro Tower Plus
The OptiPlex 7020 Micro Tower runs a 14th Gen Core i5-14500 or Core i7-14700 and comes with Windows 11 installed by Encom. The i5-14500 has 14 cores, 20 threads and a 5 GHz turbo, which is plenty for finance teams running large workbooks. The OptiPlex 7000 gives you a 12 core Core i7-12700 at KES 110,200 with Ubuntu.
At the top sits the Dell Pro Tower Plus at KES 141,500. Its Core Ultra 7 265 has 20 cores, a 5.3 GHz turbo and a built-in NPU rated at 13 TOPS for on-device AI features, and it carries Intel vPro for remote management. It is the one to pick if your IT team manages PCs across several branches.

Lenovo ThinkCentre in Kenya: M series and neo
Lenovo splits ThinkCentre into two families. It describes the M series as built for businesses that need reliable desktops for demanding workloads, with strong security and easy management, and the neo series as practical, modern desktops that balance performance, design and energy saving. All four ThinkCentre models we stock include built-in Wi-Fi and a keyboard and mouse, and ship without an operating system.
- ThinkCentre M70t Gen 5 Tower, KES 98,600: a Core i5-14400 with 10 cores and a 4.7 GHz turbo, 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD in a tower with room to expand.
- ThinkCentre M70s Gen 5 SFF, KES 116,000: a 16 core Core i7-13700 with vPro in a small form factor case, for managed fleets where desk space is tight.
- ThinkCentre neo 50t Gen 5 Tower, from KES 102,000: Core i5-14400 or Core i7-14700, with Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi.
- ThinkCentre neo 30s Gen 5 SFF, KES 120,000: a 10 core Core i7-13620H with 16GB RAM out of the box, the only desktop in this list that ships with 16GB as standard.
HP desktops in Kenya: ProDesk, Pro Tower and Pro Mini
The HP Pro Tower 290 G9 is a straightforward office workhorse: a 14 core Core i5-14500, 8GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and Windows 11 installed by Encom, from KES 95,100. You can buy it with or without a keyboard and mouse, which is handy if you are reusing peripherals. The HP ProDesk 400 G7 Microtower at KES 83,500 has a 6 core Core i5-10500, 4GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive, with room inside to upgrade later.
The HP Pro Mini 400 G9 is the one for tight desks, shared workstations and front offices. It is small enough to sit behind a monitor, and it uses Intel T series chips. The entry Core i3-13100T has a processor base power of 35 W, against 65 W for a standard desktop Core i5-14500, so it runs quiet and cool. It comes with Windows 11 installed by Encom and starts at KES 69,600.
Which office desktop fits your team?
- Reception, front desk or a single app: the OptiPlex 3000 SFF if you want an SSD on a tight budget, or the OptiPlex 3080 if price matters most.
- General office staff: the Vostro 3030 with a Core i5, the HP Pro Tower 290 G9 if you want Windows ready to go, or the ThinkCentre M70t if you already have licences.
- Finance, analysts and heavy multitaskers: the OptiPlex 7020 with a Core i7, or the ThinkCentre neo 30s for 16GB of RAM as standard.
- IT-managed fleets across branches: the vPro models, the Dell Pro Tower Plus or the ThinkCentre M70s.
- Small desks and shared spaces: the HP Pro Mini 400 G9.
Plan for stima imeenda before you buy
A laptop rides through a blackout on its battery. A desktop does not: the moment power drops, it switches off and anything unsaved is gone. That matters here, because electricity customers in Kenya averaged 8.39 hours of outages a month in EPRA’s latest biannual statistics, as reported by People Daily. Kenya Power posts planned maintenance outages on its official X account, so it is worth checking it before a busy week.
Budget for backup alongside the PCs. For a cluster of critical desktops, such as an accounts team or a till point, an online UPS like the SIEL Greenpoint 1K keeps them running on clean power while staff save and shut down. For a home office or a small shop, our guide to portable power stations in Kenya covers longer runtime, and our piece on what to do when stima imeenda has more simple tips.

Frequently asked questions
How much does an office desktop cost in Kenya?
Our business desktops range from KES 50,400 for the Dell OptiPlex 3080 to KES 141,500 for the Dell Pro Tower Plus, excluding VAT. Most staff machines with a Core i5 and an SSD fall between KES 72,000 and KES 110,000.
Are your desktop prices inclusive of VAT?
No. All Encom prices are quoted excluding VAT.
What is the cheapest office desktop you sell?
The Dell OptiPlex 3080 Micro Tower at KES 50,400, with a Core i3-10105, 4GB RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and a keyboard and mouse.
Is a Core i3 enough for office work?
For a reception desk, email and one main application, yes. For staff who run Office, a browser full of tabs and video calls at once, a Core i5 is the better choice.
How much RAM does an office PC need?
Windows 11 needs at least 4GB. We recommend 8GB for everyday office work and 16GB for heavy multitasking. The Lenovo ThinkCentre neo 30s Gen 5 ships with 16GB as standard, and the HP Pro Mini 400 G9 offers a 16GB option.
Do these desktops come with Windows?
It depends on the model. The Dell OptiPlex 7020, Dell Pro Tower Plus, HP Pro Tower 290 G9 and HP Pro Mini 400 G9 come with Windows 11 installed by Encom. Some Dell models ship with Ubuntu Linux, and the Lenovo ThinkCentre units ship without an operating system. Each product page states what you get.
Can I still use my Windows 10 office PCs?
They will still run, but Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, so they no longer receive security updates. That leaves them more exposed to malware over time.
Is Dell OptiPlex discontinued?
Dell has retired the OptiPlex name and moved its business desktops to the Dell Pro brand. We stock both OptiPlex models and the newer Dell Pro Tower and Dell Pro Tower Plus.
What is the difference between Lenovo ThinkCentre M and neo?
Lenovo positions the M series for businesses that need reliable, secure and easy to manage desktops for demanding work. The neo series is aimed at practical, modern desktops that balance performance, design and energy saving.
What is Intel vPro and do I need it?
vPro lets an IT team manage, patch and repair PCs remotely, even when the operating system is not responding. It is worth it for organisations with many PCs or several branches. The Dell Pro Tower Plus and Lenovo ThinkCentre M70s Gen 5 carry vPro.
What is an SFF desktop?
SFF means small form factor. It is a slimmer case than a tower that fits on a shelf or under a monitor. We stock the Dell OptiPlex 3000 SFF and the Lenovo ThinkCentre M70s and neo 30s SFF models.
Which desktops have built-in Wi-Fi?
The Dell Vostro 3030 and all four Lenovo ThinkCentre models list built-in Wi-Fi. The ThinkCentre neo 50t also has Bluetooth.
Do the desktops include a keyboard and mouse?
Most do, including the OptiPlex 3080, OptiPlex 3000, OptiPlex 7000, Vostro 3030, Dell Pro Tower and all four ThinkCentre models. The HP Pro Tower 290 G9 is sold with or without them. Check the product page for each model.
How do I protect office desktops from power cuts?
Put critical PCs on a UPS so staff can keep working or save and shut down safely when the power goes. For a group of desktops, an online UPS such as the SIEL Greenpoint 1K gives clean power with no break when the mains fails.
Can I get a quote for several office desktops?
Yes. Email info@encom.africa or WhatsApp +254 714 962 072 with the model, processor, number of units and whether you need Windows, and we will send a quote.
