Apple MacBook Pro 14 inch M3 Pro

A 14 inch MacBook Pro for video editors, developers and designers who push their machine every day

The Apple MacBook Pro 14 inch with the M3 Pro chip is built for sustained heavy work. Unlike a MacBook Air, it has a fan, so it holds full speed through long exports, builds and renders. The version we stock has the top M3 Pro chip with a 12-core CPU and an 18-core GPU, 18GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD, in Space Black.

It is part of our range of MacBooks.

What you get

M3 Pro, 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU

This is the higher of the two M3 Pro chips. Six performance cores and six efficiency cores handle compiling code, running virtual machines and processing large photo batches. The 18-core GPU supports hardware ray tracing and makes a clear difference in Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Lightroom and 3D tools. The media engine handles ProRes and H.264/HEVC video in hardware, so editing 4K footage is smooth.

Memory and storage

18GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD are fixed at purchase and cannot be upgraded. 18GB is comfortable for most professional work, including 4K editing and development with a few containers running. 1TB leaves room for a working library of projects. Keep finished projects on an external drive.

Liquid Retina XDR display

The 14.2 inch mini-LED screen is 3024 x 1964 with ProMotion up to 120Hz. It reaches 1000 nits sustained and 1600 nits peak for HDR content, and 600 nits for normal use. Blacks are deep and colour is accurate, which matters for grading video or editing photos for print.

Ports

You get three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 for charging and a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones. The M3 Pro runs up to two external displays. Photographers can copy cards without a reader, and presenters can plug straight into a projector.

Camera, audio and wireless

It has a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, three studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are built in, and Touch ID is in the keyboard.

Size, weight and battery

It weighs about 1.61kg and is about 1.55cm thick. Apple rates the battery at up to 18 hours of video playback. The Space Black finish has a coating that reduces fingerprints.

Who it suits

It suits video editors, motion designers, software developers, photographers, architects using Mac tools, and content creators who export every day. If your work is mostly email, documents and browsing, a MacBook Air will feel just as fast for far less money. If you need more than 18GB of memory for large 8K timelines or big machine learning models, ask us about higher configurations.

Operating system

It runs macOS and gets free macOS updates from Apple. Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, Xcode, Microsoft Office and most professional Mac software run natively on Apple silicon. Apple Intelligence is supported.

How it compares

The MacBook Pro 14 inch M4 has a newer chip, more memory at 24GB and a 12MP Center Stage camera, but a GPU with fewer cores. For pure graphics and video work, the M3 Pro still holds its own. The MacBook Pro M5 is the newest MacBook Pro we stock. If you do not need a fan or extra ports, the MacBook Air 13 inch M3 is lighter and much cheaper.

Looking after it

Plug the charger into a surge protector or a UPS, especially in areas where the power goes off and comes back with a spike. MagSafe and USB-C chargers are not cheap to replace, and a bad surge can reach the logic board. macOS has Optimised Battery Charging switched on by default, which learns your routine and holds the battery at 80% when the Mac sits on the charger for long periods. Leave it on. Keep the laptop on a hard surface, clean the screen with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, and do not spray liquid directly onto the keyboard or display.

The fan pulls air in and out along the bottom and back edges, so do not work with it on a bed or cushion during long exports.

Works well with

The Logitech MX Anywhere 3S gives precise control for editing and works on most surfaces. The UGREEN Swivel Laptop Stand keeps the screen at eye level and helps airflow, and the UGREEN 240W USB-C cable is a good spare for charging or connecting drives.
