Home backup with real power, fast enough for a desktop PC

The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic is a 1kWh power station that does two jobs most units in its size can’t do together. It puts out 1800W, so a fridge, a microwave and a TV are within reach, and it switches over in under 10 milliseconds, so a desktop PC normally rides through a KPLC cut without restarting. Leave it plugged into the wall and it passes mains power through until the lights go off, then takes over.

It sits in our portable power stations range, part of our wider power and backup section.

What you get with the DELTA 3 Classic

1,024Wh LFP battery

The battery holds 1,024Wh and uses LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells. EcoFlow estimates a lifespan of around 10 years. LFP suits a battery that is cycled most days.

1800W output, 3600W surge

The AC output is rated at 1800W continuous as a pure sine wave, with a 3600W surge for the moment a motor or compressor starts. That surge headroom is what lets it start a household fridge. X-Boost lets some resistive appliances above 1800W run at reduced voltage.

Under 10ms switchover

EcoFlow rates the switchover at under 10 milliseconds. Most desktop power supplies ride through a gap that short, so the PC, the monitor and the router stay on and you keep the file you were working on. This is the main difference between the DELTA 3 Classic and the DELTA 2 (E980), which switches in under 30ms.

Ports

Next to the AC outlets there is a 100W USB-C port, a 30W USB-C port and an 18W USB-A port. There is no 12V car-style outlet on this model.

Charging

From the wall it draws up to 1400W and goes from empty to 80% in about 45 minutes, according to EcoFlow. It takes up to 500W of solar between 11V and 60V, which fills it in about 2.5 hours in good sun. It also charges from a car socket, slowly, or from EcoFlow’s 500W alternator charger, sold separately.

Size, noise and app

It weighs about 12.1 kg and measures 398 x 200 x 283 mm, with a handle at each end. EcoFlow rates it under 30dB at 600W, quiet enough for a bedroom. The EcoFlow app shows what you are drawing and how long the battery will last.

How long will it run?

To estimate runtime, take the capacity, reduce it by about 15% for inverter losses, and divide by the load in watts. These are estimates.

  • Office desktop, 24-inch monitor and router, about 150W: 1,024 x 0.85 = about 870Wh, divided by 150W gives roughly 5.5 hours.
  • Router, four 9W LED bulbs and a 43-inch LED TV, about 126W: roughly 7 hours.
  • A household fridge averaging around 60W once the compressor cycles on and off: roughly 14 hours on the fridge alone.

Most kettles and irons sold in Kenya are rated at 2000W to 3000W, above the 1800W rating. Some will run in X-Boost mode, slowly, but they will drain the battery fast.

Compatibility

The 230V versions output pure sine wave AC, the same voltage as Kenyan mains. The AC socket type depends on the regional version, so ask us which plug it takes. Use a cable rated for 100W on the main USB-C port, such as the UGREEN 240W USB-C cable. The battery is not expandable on this model.

Setting it up

Charge it to full from the wall. Install the EcoFlow app, pair over Bluetooth and update the firmware. Keep the AC cable plugged into the wall, plug your PC, router and lights into the DELTA 3 Classic, and switch on the AC output. Test it by switching off at the wall.

Who it suits

It suits home workers with a desktop PC, households that want the fridge, TV and Wi-Fi to carry on through an evening outage, small shops and salons that need lights, a till and a fridge, and anyone building a modest solar backup. It is not the right choice if you want to add batteries later, if you need to run a kettle or an electric cooker, or if you are protecting a server or several office PCs.

How it compares

The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus has the same capacity and output but takes extra batteries up to 5kWh and two solar inputs. The EcoFlow DELTA 2 costs less and holds similar energy, but its 500W output and 30ms switchover rule out a family fridge or a desktop. For a single desk with a laptop or small PC, the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus is smaller. Offices with servers, network cabinets or several PCs are better served by an online UPS such as the SIEL Greenpoint 3K, which runs the load through its inverter all the time, so there is no switchover gap at all.

Looking after it

Keep it on a hard floor or shelf with space around the fans, away from direct sun and damp. Don’t cover it while it charges. Wipe it with a dry cloth. If you store it unused, top it up every few months.

Frequently asked questions

Will my desktop PC stay on during a power cut?

In most cases, yes. The switchover is under 10ms, which most desktop power supplies handle.

Can it run a fridge?

Yes, most household fridges. The 3600W surge covers the compressor starting.

Can I run a kettle on it?

Most kettles draw more than 1800W. Some run slowly in X-Boost mode, but it is not a kettle backup.

How long does it take to charge?

About 45 minutes to 80% from the wall, according to EcoFlow.

Can I charge it with solar?

Yes, up to 500W of panels between 11V and 60V.

Can I add a battery later?

No. For that, choose the DELTA 3 Plus.
