UGREEN Portable Wireless Mouse MU001

A small, quiet wireless mouse for laptop users on the move

The UGREEN MU001 is a compact wireless mouse built to live in a laptop bag. It connects through a USB receiver, runs on a single AA battery, and clicks quietly. People buy it because a trackpad gets tiring after an hour of spreadsheets or slides, and this mouse fixes that without taking up much room in a bag or on a small desk.

You will find it in our mice and keyboards range.

What the MU001 offers

Plug-and-play 2.4GHz wireless

The mouse talks to your computer through a small USB-A receiver. There is nothing to pair and no software to install. Retailer listings give a range of up to 15 metres, which is more than you need at a desk but handy if your laptop is plugged into a projector across a classroom.

Four pointer speeds

A DPI button lets you choose between 1000, 1600, 2000 and 4000 DPI. Lower settings give finer control for detailed work. Higher settings move the pointer further for less hand movement, which helps on a large external monitor.

Quiet clicks

The two main buttons use quiet switches, listed at 40 dB or less. In a shared office, a lecture hall or a house where people are sleeping, that makes a real difference. The buttons are rated for about 3 million clicks.

Long battery life

One AA battery powers the mouse, and retailers list battery life at up to 18 months with normal use. The mouse goes to sleep when you stop using it to save power. Several retailers note that the battery is not included, so keep an AA ready.

Compact and ambidextrous

At roughly 109 by 62 mm, it is smaller than a full-size desk mouse. The symmetrical shape works in either hand. People with large hands may find it small for a full working day.

Compatibility

The MU001 works with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and Linux. It needs a USB-A port for the receiver. If your laptop only has USB-C ports, such as the MacBook Air M5, you will need a USB-C adapter or hub. It has no Bluetooth.

Setting it up

Put an AA battery in the mouse, plug the receiver into a USB port and switch the mouse on. Your computer picks it up within a few seconds. Press the DPI button to cycle through the speeds until the pointer feels right.

Who it suits

It suits students, sales staff and anyone who carries a laptop between home, the office and client visits. It also works well for teachers who present from a laptop. It is not the best pick for people who want to connect to a tablet, since it has no Bluetooth, or for gamers who need a gaming sensor.

How it compares

If you want Bluetooth and a rechargeable battery, the UGREEN FUN+ MU102 connects both ways and charges over USB-C. For a cheaper receiver mouse in five colours, see the UGREEN MU105. If you prefer Logitech, the Logitech M185 is a similar compact wireless mouse.

Looking after it

Switch the mouse off before you pack it, so it doesn’t wake up in your bag. If the pointer starts to jump or lag, change the battery first. Wipe the shell with a slightly damp cloth and keep the sensor window clean. Don’t lose the receiver, because the mouse is paired to it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it have Bluetooth?

No. It connects through its USB receiver only.

What battery does it use?

One AA battery.

Can I change the speed?

Yes. It has four DPI settings, from 1000 to 4000.

Is it silent?

The clicks are quiet, listed at 40 dB or less.

Does it work with a Mac?

Yes. A USB-C Mac needs an adapter for the receiver.
