The Dell Latitude 3450 is the 2024 version of Dell’s 14 inch entry business laptop. It keeps the things offices ask for, a full set of USB-A ports, HDMI and a wired Ethernet port, and moves to faster DDR5 memory and Wi-Fi 6E. What you get

13th Gen Intel Core i5-1335U

The i5-1335U has 10 cores and 12 threads and boosts up to 4.6GHz. Two performance cores handle the heavy moments, such as opening a large file or exporting a report, and eight efficient cores keep background tasks running without draining the battery. For Office, browser systems, ERP and accounting software, email and video calls, it is more than enough.

16GB DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD

Sixteen gigabytes lets you keep a browser full of tabs, Teams, Excel and an accounting package open together without the laptop slowing down. The memory sits in two standard SO-DIMM slots, and Dell lists support for up to 64GB, so it can be upgraded later instead of replaced. The 512GB NVMe SSD gives quick start-up and plenty of room for documents and project files.

14 inch Full HD screen

The 1920 x 1080 anti-glare screen is sharp enough for side-by-side documents and keeps reflections down under office lights. A 14 inch screen is the usual balance between a workable display and a laptop that still fits in a normal bag.

Ports for a real office

You get three USB-A ports for a mouse, flash drives and printers, one USB-C port that handles charging and an external display, a full HDMI port for a monitor or projector, an RJ45 Ethernet port and a headset jack. Many slim laptops have dropped Ethernet. The 3450 keeps it, which helps in offices with cabled networks or weak Wi-Fi.

Wireless, webcam and security

Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth come built in. There is a webcam and microphones for Teams and Zoom calls, a TPM security chip for drive encryption, and a wedge-shaped lock slot for a cable lock. Camera and fingerprint reader options vary by unit, so ask us if you need a specific one.

Size and weight

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts and voltage swings are common, because a power spike can damage the charger and the board. Keep the vents clear by working on a desk or table rather than a bed or sofa. If the laptop stays plugged in most of the day, Dell’s BIOS power settings let you limit charging so the battery lasts longer. Clean the keyboard with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.
