HP EliteBook 8 G1i 16

A 16 inch EliteBook with a number pad and an H-series chip, for heavy desk work

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i 16 is the 16 inch model in HP’s 2025 EliteBook 8 series, the premium business line that replaces the older 800 series. It gives you a large 16:10 screen and a full keyboard with a number pad in a body under 2kg. Our unit has the Intel Core Ultra 7 255H, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.

It is part of our range of business laptops.

What you get

Intel Core Ultra 7 255H

The 255H is an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processor with 16 cores and 16 threads, boosting up to 5.1GHz. It is an H-series chip, built for sustained speed rather than the lowest power draw, so it holds up under large financial models, BI dashboards, engineering software, code builds and several virtual machines. It has Intel Arc graphics built in and a 13 TOPS NPU, a small AI engine for camera and audio effects on calls.

16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD

The memory sits in two standard DDR5 slots rather than being soldered, and the platform supports up to 64GB. That means you can buy at 16GB now and add memory later. Ask us before you buy a module so we can confirm what is fitted. The 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD keeps start-up, file opening and searches quick.

16 inch 16:10 screen and number pad

The 16 inch screen in a 16:10 shape shows far more of a ledger, a report or two documents side by side than a 14 inch laptop. HP sells this model with more than one panel, including 1920 x 1200 versions at different brightness levels and touch versions, so ask us which one this unit has if that matters to you. The keyboard includes a full number pad, which makes data entry quicker and saves you buying a separate keypad.

Ports

Distributor specifications for the 16 inch model list two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a further USB-C port, a USB-A port, HDMI and a headset jack. The Thunderbolt ports charge the laptop and drive monitors or a dock, and HDMI connects a projector or TV without an adapter. Ask us if you need wired Ethernet, which HP offers on some EliteBook 8 configurations.

Wireless, webcam and security

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in. The 5MP webcam has a privacy cover for calls on Teams, Zoom and Google Meet. HP Wolf Security for Business and a TPM 2.0 chip protect the BIOS and your data, and HP Sure Start restores the BIOS if it is attacked. A fingerprint reader and an IR camera are factory options, so ask us to confirm them on this unit.

Size, weight and battery

Distributors list it from about 1.69kg and around 16mm thick, with a 359mm width. That is light for a 16 inch laptop with a number pad, and it slips into most 16 inch bags. The 62Wh battery supports HP Fast Charge.

Who it suits

The 8 G1i 16 suits accountants, auditors, finance and procurement teams, engineers and analysts who spend the day in spreadsheets and heavy business software and want a big screen without a heavy laptop. It also suits managers who use it docked to a monitor most of the week. If you travel every day, the HP EliteBook 8 G1i 14 is easier to carry. If your work is email and documents, a ProBook will cost you much less.

Operating system

We install Windows 11 on it before delivery, so it is ready to use when it arrives. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

How it compares

The HP ProBook 4 G1i 16 is the lower-priced 16 inch HP for the same generation, with a U-series chip. The HP OmniBook X Flip 16 is a 16 inch convertible if you want a touchscreen that folds back. The Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G8 IAL has the same Core Ultra 7 255H and a number pad for less money, with 8GB of RAM and a less premium build.

Looking after it

Charge it through a surge protector or a UPS, because a surge when power returns can damage the board through the charger. An H-series chip runs warmer under load, so work on a hard surface and keep the vents clear. If the laptop sits plugged in at a desk most of the day, HP’s Battery Health Manager in HP Power Manager limits charging so the battery lasts longer. Clean the keyboard and number pad with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

The UGREEN Swivel Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level for long days at a desk. Add the Logitech MK540 keyboard and mouse for a full desk setup, or the Logitech MX Anywhere 3S on its own.
