HP ProBook 4 G1i 16

A 16 inch HP business laptop with a Core Ultra 7 and a number pad

The HP ProBook 4 G1i 16 is HP’s newest 16 inch ProBook. It follows the ProBook 460 under HP’s new naming and moves to Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors. It is built for people who spend the day in spreadsheets, finance systems and reports and want a big screen and a number pad without a heavy laptop. The version we stock has an Intel Core Ultra 7 255U, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard.

It is part of our range of business laptops.

What you get

Intel Core Ultra 7 255U

The Core Ultra 7 255U has 12 cores and 14 threads and boosts up to 5.2GHz. It handles large Excel models, many browser tabs, ERP and accounting systems and video calls at the same time without slowing down. It also has a built-in NPU for AI features in Windows and in apps such as Teams, and the keyboard has a dedicated Copilot key.

16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD

The 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory comes as a single stick, so one of the two memory slots is free. That makes it easy to add more memory later, and a second stick also lets the integrated graphics run in dual channel. Ask us before you buy memory so we can confirm what fits. The 512GB PCIe SSD keeps start-up and file opening fast.

16 inch WUXGA screen and number pad

The 1920 x 1200 anti-glare IPS screen uses a 16:10 shape and is rated at 300 nits. You see more rows and columns than on a 14 inch or a typical 15.6 inch laptop, which matters when you work in ledgers all day. The keyboard includes a full number pad, so data entry is quicker and you do not need an external keypad.

Ports without adapters

You get two USB-C ports at 20Gbps that support charging and an external display, two USB-A ports, a full HDMI port, a wired Ethernet port and a headset jack. You can plug into a monitor, a projector, a printer and a cabled network straight away.

Wireless, webcam and security

This version has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth built in, a webcam and dual microphones for Teams and Zoom. The fingerprint reader lets you sign in to Windows in a second, and the backlit keyboard helps when you work late or during a power cut. HP Wolf Security tools protect the BIOS and your data.

Size and weight

It weighs about 1.74kg and is about 17mm thick. It is a desk-first laptop that is still easy to carry to meetings or between branches.

Who it suits

The ProBook 4 G1i 16 suits accounts and finance teams, banks and SACCOs, school bursars, NGOs and managers who want a current business laptop with a big screen. If you travel every day and want something lighter, the HP ProBook 4 G1i 14 is easier to carry, though it has no number pad.

Operating system

We install Windows 11 on it before delivery, so it is ready to use when it arrives. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

How it compares

The HP ProBook 460 G11 is the previous 16 inch ProBook, with first generation Core Ultra chips and more configurations, if you want to spend less. For a more premium HP build in the same size, look at the HP EliteBook 8 G1i 16. Comparing brands? The Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 and the Dell Latitude 5550 are the closest large-screen business alternatives.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts are common, and keep the vents clear by working on a hard surface rather than a bed or sofa. If it stays plugged in at your desk most of the day, the HP BIOS includes a battery health setting that limits charging so the battery lasts longer. Clean the keyboard and number pad with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

Add the Logitech MK540 keyboard and mouse combo for a full desk setup, or the HP Wireless Mouse 200 on its own. The UGREEN Swivel Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level and turns it to show a client.
