A Pro screen and battery at the entry price
The Apple MacBook Pro 14 inch with the M3 chip gives you the parts of a MacBook Pro most people notice every day: the bright Liquid Retina XDR screen, six speakers, long battery life and a full set of ports. It is the most affordable way into the 14 inch Pro body. Choose the 512GB or 1TB version above. Both come in Space Grey with 8GB of unified memory.
It suits students, writers, marketers, developers who work in the browser and designers doing photo work and light video. If you are coming from an older Intel MacBook or a mid-range Windows laptop, it will feel much faster and run much longer away from the socket. You can compare it with the rest of our MacBooks.
Performance
The M3 has an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, built on a 3 nanometre process. Apple’s figures show it handling Lightroom, Final Cut Pro timelines and Xcode builds comfortably, and it adds hardware ray tracing for newer games and 3D apps. It stays quiet because the 14 inch body has a fan that rarely needs to spin up for everyday work.
The 8GB of memory is fine for office work, browsing with a sensible number of tabs, Zoom calls and photo editing. If you regularly run virtual machines, large Xcode projects or long 4K video edits, the MacBook Pro 14 inch M3 Pro or the M4 Pro model give you much more headroom.
Screen and sound
The 14.2 inch Liquid Retina XDR display reaches 1,000 nits for normal content and 1,600 nits peak for HDR, so it stays readable in a bright Nairobi office or near a window. ProMotion adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz, which makes scrolling smooth. Six speakers with force-cancelling woofers and Spatial Audio sound much fuller than most laptops, and the three studio-quality microphones keep you clear on calls.
Ports and battery
You get two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports, HDMI for a TV or projector, an SDXC card slot for cameras, a headphone jack and MagSafe 3 for charging. Apple rates the battery at up to 22 hours of video playback, which in practice means a full working day with room to spare, a big plus when power cuts hit. The 70W USB-C adapter is in the box. Full specifications are on Apple’s technical specifications page.
Good to pair with
A spare Apple USB-C 60W Charge Cable lets you top up from any USB-C charger, and the MacBook supports one external display over Thunderbolt. For the lightest option, see the MacBook Air 13 inch (M5).
Frequently asked questions
Which storage should I choose?
512GB suits most users who keep files in iCloud or on an external drive. Choose 1TB if you store large photo libraries, video projects or many apps locally.
Is 8GB of memory enough?
For office work, browsing, calls and photo editing, yes. Apple silicon uses memory efficiently. For heavy video, virtual machines or large code projects, choose an M3 Pro or M4 Pro model.
Can I connect two monitors?
The M3 supports one external display natively. The M3 Pro and M4 Pro models support two or more.
Does it run Microsoft Office?
Yes. Microsoft 365 runs natively on Apple silicon Macs.
