The Dell Vostro 3510 is Dell’s 15.6 inch laptop for small businesses, built on Intel’s 11th generation processors. It gives you a big Full HD screen, a full keyboard with a number pad and a wired network port for less than a Latitude. We have it in two configurations, both with 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a Full HD screen: a Core i5-1135G7 that ships with Ubuntu Linux, and a Core i7-1165G7 that we set up with Windows 11.

What you get

Core i5 or Core i7, 11th generation

Both chips have four cores and eight threads. The Core i5-1135G7 boosts up to 4.2GHz and handles Office, email, browser-based systems and video calls comfortably. The Core i7-1165G7 boosts up to 4.7GHz and gives more headroom for large spreadsheets, many open tabs and light photo editing. For most office staff the Core i5 is enough. Pick the Core i7 for managers, analysts and heavier multitaskers.

8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD

Eight gigabytes covers a normal office day. The 3510 has two memory slots and supports up to 16GB, so you can add a second stick later instead of replacing the laptop. A matching second stick also lets the Intel graphics run in dual channel, which makes them quicker. The 512GB NVMe SSD keeps start-up and file opening fast and gives you room for years of documents.

15.6 inch Full HD screen and number pad

The 1920 x 1080 anti-glare screen shows more rows and columns than a 14 inch laptop, which helps when you work in ledgers and reports all day. Colours are fine for office work but not for professional photo or design work. The keyboard is full size with a dedicated number pad, so data entry is quicker without an external keypad.

Ports for a normal office

Spec listings show USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI 1.4 for a monitor or projector, a wired Ethernet port, an SD card reader and a headset jack. Some builds have a USB-C data port in place of one USB-A port, so ask us if you need USB-C. The Ethernet port is a real help in offices with cabled networks or weak Wi-Fi.

Wireless and webcam

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in, and there is an HD webcam with a microphone for Teams, Zoom and Google Meet.

Size and weight

It weighs about 1.69kg and is under 19mm thick, with a width of about 358mm. Treat it as a desk laptop you can carry to meetings, not one for daily commuting.

The Vostro 3510 suits accounts and admin staff, school offices, SACCOs, shops and small businesses that want a big screen and a number pad without paying Latitude prices. The Core i5 with Ubuntu suits teams that work mostly in the browser and LibreOffice, and developers who want Linux. The Core i7 with Windows 11 suits anyone who needs Windows software from day one. The body is plastic, so if the laptop will be knocked about on the road every day, or you want a lighter machine, look at the options below.

Operating system

The Core i5 version ships with Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is free, gets regular security updates and runs LibreOffice, Chrome, Firefox, Zoom and most web-based systems well. For the Core i7 version, we install Windows 11 on it before delivery, and we can do the same on the Core i5 if you prefer Windows. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

The Dell Vostro 3500 is the earlier 15.6 inch Vostro with the same chip generation. The Dell Vostro 3530 moves to 13th Gen processors and a smoother 120Hz screen. Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts are common, because a surge when power returns can damage the charger and the board. Keep the vents clear by working on a hard surface rather than a bed or sofa, since this model gets warm under heavy load. If the laptop sits plugged in at a desk most of the day, Dell’s BIOS has a battery charge setting that stops charging below full, which helps the battery last longer. Clean the keyboard with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

Add the Dell KM3322W keyboard and mouse for a full desk setup, or the Dell WM126 wireless mouse on its own. The UGREEN Metallic Foldable Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level for long days at a desk.
