HP 15-fd0

A 15.6 inch HP laptop for home, study and everyday office work

The HP 15-fd0 is HP’s everyday 15.6 inch laptop. It gives you a big Full HD screen, a full keyboard with a number pad and a fast SSD at a price that suits students, families and small offices. We stock four configurations: an Intel Core 5 120U with 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H with 8GB and a touchscreen, a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1355U with 8GB, and the same Core i7 with 16GB and a touchscreen. Every version has a 512GB SSD.

It is part of our range of student laptops.

What you get

Three processor choices

The Intel Core 5 120U is a 10-core chip that boosts up to 5.0GHz. It handles Office, browsing, Zoom, school portals and streaming without fuss. The Core Ultra 5 125H is a 14-core, 18-thread chip from a higher power class, so it holds up better under long, heavy work such as big spreadsheets or light photo editing. The Core i7-1355U has 10 cores and boosts up to 5.0GHz, with Intel Iris Xe graphics. If you are not sure which one you need, tell us what the laptop is for and we will point you to the right one.

RAM and storage

Three versions come with 8GB, which is enough for study, email and normal office work. The 16GB Core i7 version is the one to pick if you keep many browser tabs and apps open at once. If you plan to add memory later, ask us first so we can confirm what fits your version. The 512GB SSD keeps start-up quick and leaves plenty of room for documents, photos and course material.

15.6 inch Full HD screen

All four have a 1920 x 1080 anti-glare screen with thin side bezels. The Core Ultra 5 and the 16GB Core i7 versions add a touchscreen, which is handy for scrolling and signing documents. The other two are standard non-touch screens.

Keyboard with a number pad

The full-size keyboard includes a number pad, which helps with spreadsheets, M-Pesa statements and school fee records. The Core 5 and the 8GB Core i7 versions have a backlit keyboard, which makes typing easier during evening power cuts.

Ports

You get two USB-A ports, one USB-C port for data, a full HDMI port for a TV, monitor or projector, and a headset jack. It charges through HP’s round barrel charger, not through USB-C. There is no Ethernet port, so plan on Wi-Fi.

Wireless and webcam

Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E, depending on the version, and Bluetooth come built in, with a 720p HP True Vision webcam and dual microphones for online classes and video calls.

Size and weight

HP lists the 15-fd0 at about 1.6kg and under 2cm thick. It is comfortable to carry to class or the office in a normal laptop bag.

Who it suits

The HP 15-fd0 suits university and college students, families sharing one laptop at home, and small businesses that need a dependable machine for Office, email and online systems. The Core i7 16GB version suits people who want it to stay comfortable for several years. If you need wired Ethernet, a fingerprint reader or a tougher business build, choose a business laptop such as the HP ProBook 450 G10. It is also not built for gaming or video editing.

Operating system

The Core Ultra 5 and the 16GB Core i7 versions come with Windows 11 Home. On the Core 5 and the 8GB Core i7 versions, we install Windows 11 on it before delivery. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

How it compares

The HP 15-dw is the earlier 15.6 inch HP model from the same everyday family. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10 is the closest rival from Lenovo, with an H-series processor. If you want a laptop that folds into a tablet, the HP OmniBook 5 Flip 14 is the step up.

Full product details are on HP’s official site.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts and voltage spikes are common, and always use the HP charger it came with. Keep the vents clear by working on a desk or a hard surface rather than a bed or sofa. Wipe the screen with a dry microfibre cloth, and on the touch versions avoid spraying cleaner straight onto the glass. Clear crumbs from the keyboard with a soft brush.

Works well with

Add the HP Wireless Mouse 200 for comfortable everyday use, or the HP 330 Wireless Keyboard if you work at a desk. The UGREEN Metallic Foldable Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level for long study sessions.
