Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G8 IAL

A 14 inch Lenovo business laptop with Intel Core Ultra and Thunderbolt 4

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G8 IAL is Lenovo’s 2025 ThinkBook for growing businesses: an aluminium-lid 14 inch laptop with a 16:10 screen, a fingerprint reader and a full set of office ports. It sits between the V series and the ThinkPad range. We stock two configurations in Arctic Grey: an Intel Core Ultra 5 225U with 8GB of RAM, and an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H with 16GB of RAM. Both have a 512GB SSD and a 14 inch WUXGA screen, and we install Windows 11 before delivery.

It is part of our range of business laptops.

What you get

Core Ultra 5 225U or Core Ultra 7 255H

The Core Ultra 5 225U is a 12-core, 14-thread chip that boosts up to 4.8GHz. It is tuned for battery life and quiet running, and it handles Office, browser systems, Teams calls and accounting software comfortably. The Core Ultra 7 255H is a higher-powered H-series chip with 16 cores, boosting up to 5.1GHz, for large datasets, coding, many open apps and light photo or video work. Both include an Intel NPU, a low-power AI engine that supported apps can use. Neither is a Copilot+ PC.

Graphics

The Core Ultra 5 uses Intel integrated graphics. The Core Ultra 7 can run Intel Arc 140T graphics, which are much quicker for photo editing and light creative work, but Lenovo notes this needs at least 16GB of memory in two matched sticks. Ask us how the memory is fitted on the Core Ultra 7 unit if graphics speed matters to you.

Memory and storage you can grow

Lenovo’s spec sheet lists two DDR5-5600 memory slots supporting up to 64GB, and two M.2 SSD slots, with only one used from the factory. So you can add a second memory stick or a second SSD later instead of replacing the laptop. 8GB suits email, documents and one business system; 16GB is the better choice for heavy multitasking. Ask us before you buy upgrades so we can confirm what fits.

14 inch WUXGA screen

The 1920 x 1200 IPS anti-glare screen is 300 nits with a 16:10 shape, so you see more of a spreadsheet or document than on an older 16:9 screen.

Ports for a modern office

You get a Thunderbolt 4 port and a second USB-C port, both of which charge the laptop and drive a display, two USB-A ports (one stays powered when the lid is shut, for charging a phone), full HDMI 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet, an SD card reader and a headset jack. It can drive up to three external screens, and Thunderbolt 4 works with a single-cable dock.

Security, webcam and wireless

Both units have a fingerprint reader in the power button. The webcam has a privacy shutter, and there is TPM 2.0 for BitLocker and Windows 11 security. Lenovo fits Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E depending on configuration. The keyboard is spill-resistant with a Copilot key. A backlight is optional on this model, so ask us if you need one.

Size, weight and build

Lenovo quotes a starting weight of 1.36kg and a thickness of 17.5mm. The lid is aluminium, and Lenovo says the design passed MIL-STD-810H durability tests.

Who it suits

The Core Ultra 5 suits finance, admin and sales staff, consultants and NGO teams who want a smart, light business laptop with good battery life. The Core Ultra 7 suits managers, analysts and developers who push their machines harder. If you work mostly in spreadsheets and want a number pad, the 16 inch version is the better fit. If you want a ThinkPad keyboard and TrackPoint, look at the ThinkPad options below.

Operating system

We install Windows 11 on it before delivery. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

How it compares

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G6 IRL is the earlier generation with a 13th Gen Core i7, and the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G8 IAL is this laptop in a 16 inch body with a number pad. For a ThinkPad keyboard and build, look at the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 6. Comparing brands? The HP ProBook 440 G11 is HP’s 14 inch business alternative with Core Ultra processors.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts are common, and keep the vents clear by working on a hard surface rather than a bed or sofa. If the laptop stays plugged in at your desk most of the day, the Lenovo Vantage app lets you limit charging so the battery lasts longer. Clean the keyboard with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

The Lenovo 400 Wireless Mouse is an easy add for travel. At a desk, pair the Logitech MX Keys Mini with the UGREEN Swivel Laptop Stand to raise the screen to eye level.
