Solar Generator Price in Kenya: What Each EcoFlow Setup Costs and Runs

A solar generator in Kenya costs KES 40,700 to KES 457,050 excl. VAT at Encom, before panels. Here is what each EcoFlow model runs, how many solar panels it needs and how it compares with a petrol generator.

The solar generator price in Kenya starts at KES 40,700 excl. VAT at Encom for the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus and goes up to KES 457,050 for the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3, which can back up a whole home. These prices cover the power station, so you also need to budget for the solar panels that charge it.

So why are more Kenyans asking about solar generators? Because the grid keeps letting them down. EPRA data shows that Kenyans face about 8.39 hours of blackouts a month, as People Daily reported. When stima imeenda, a solar generator keeps the lights, Wi-Fi and laptop going, and then it refills from the sun the next day.

What exactly is a solar generator?

A solar generator is a portable power station paired with solar panels. In other words, it is a large lithium battery with sockets and an inverter built in, and the panels refill it by day. EcoFlow itself sells the DELTA 3 2000 Air as a “Solar Generator” bundle with a 400W panel. Unlike a petrol genset, it has no engine, so it runs quietly and gives off no fumes.

It also works without the sun. Every model we stock charges from a normal wall socket too, so you can top it up from KPLC whenever the power is on. For a model by model breakdown, see our guide to choosing a portable power station.

Solar generator prices in Kenya by size

The solar generator price in Kenya climbs with battery size, so start with what you want to run and for how long. Here is what each band buys you.

Small: RIVER 3 Plus for Wi-Fi, laptops and lights

The EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus (KES 40,700) suits a home office. It holds 286Wh, gives 600W and takes up to 220W of solar, according to EcoFlow. For example, a 60W laptop and router setup would run for a little under five hours on paper.

It also switches over in under 10ms, so a desktop PC stays on when KPLC drops. When you need more time, the RIVER 3 Plus extra battery (KES 26,620) adds capacity, up to 858Wh in total.

Mid size: DELTA 2 and DELTA 3 for home appliances

Most Kenyan homes land here. The EcoFlow DELTA 2 (E980) costs KES 62,700 and stores 980Wh. EcoFlow rates the DELTA 2 for up to 500W of solar at 11 to 60V. Meanwhile, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic (KES 96,800) adds a 10ms switchover and 1,800W of output, enough for most household appliances.

If you want more stored energy, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 2000 Air (KES 103,400) holds 1,920Wh, although its output is lower at 1,000W. In contrast, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus (KES 108,900) is the fastest solar charger of the group. EcoFlow sums it up as “Solar Input with 1000W MPPT, Full Charge in 70 Minutes.” It also expands to 5kWh with extra batteries.

Large: DELTA Pro 3 for a whole home or small business

The EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 (KES 457,050) is a different class of machine. It stores 4,096Wh, delivers 4,000W and accepts up to 2,600W of solar across two inputs, according to EcoFlow’s specs. As a result, it can carry a shop, a small clinic or a full home through an evening outage. You can also add two extra batteries for 12kWh in total.

For server rooms and sensitive IT, however, a solar generator is the wrong tool. In that case, a dedicated online UPS fits better, as our guide to SIEL online UPS systems explains.

How many solar panels does a solar generator need in Kenya?

Match the panels to the power station’s solar input, then size them to your daily use. KIPPRA, the government’s policy research institute, puts Kenya’s solar potential at 4 to 6 kWh per square metre a day, with 5 to 7 hours of sunshine. So as a rough planning figure, each 100W of panel gives about 400 to 600Wh on a clear day.

In practice, heat, dust and panel angle cut that number, so plan on the low end. Here is how it works out:

  • RIVER 3 Plus (286Wh): one 100W to 220W panel refills it on a sunny day.
  • DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 Classic (about 1kWh): 400W to 500W of panels.
  • For the DELTA 3 2000 Air (1,920Wh): at least 400W, as in EcoFlow’s own bundle.
  • DELTA 3 Plus (1,024Wh): 500W for a steady day, or up to 1,000W when speed matters.
  • The DELTA Pro 3 (4,096Wh): 1,000W or more, up to its 2,600W limit.

Also check voltage. Panels wired in series add their voltages, and each input has a limit, such as 11 to 60V on the DELTA 3 Plus, so stay inside it. Since our shop stocks the power stations rather than panels, tell us which panel you plan to use when you ask for a quote, and we will check that it fits.

Solar generator vs petrol generator in Kenya: what does it cost to run?

A petrol generator costs less up front, but a solar generator costs almost nothing to run. In Nairobi, petrol sells at KES 226.96 a litre from 15 October to 14 November 2026, after EPRA’s latest review. Every outage hour on a genset burns some of that, while sunshine is free once you own the panels.

Safety matters too. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns: “Keep generators outside, at least 20 feet from doors, windows, and vents.” A battery power station has no engine and no exhaust, so it can sit in your sitting room or office.

On the other hand, a petrol genset runs for as long as you keep buying fuel, whereas a solar generator depends on its battery and the weather. That is why many homes use solar for daily outages and top up from KPLC during cloudy weeks. For smaller setups, our piece on what to do when stima imeenda covers more backup options.

Which solar generator should you buy?

Pick by what you need to keep running, because that decides the battery and output you pay for.

  • Wi-Fi, a laptop and lights: RIVER 3 Plus, since it is the lowest cost way in.
  • A TV, fridge and lights through an evening outage: DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 Classic.
  • Long outages on light loads: DELTA 3 2000 Air, because it stores the most energy per shilling in our range.
  • Fast refills from the sun: DELTA 3 Plus, thanks to its two solar inputs.
  • A whole home, shop or clinic: DELTA Pro 3, especially when you want 4,000W of output.

Sizing and solar panels

What size solar generator do I need for my home?

Add up the watts of what you want to run, then multiply by the hours you need. For example, 100W for 5 hours needs 500Wh, so a 1kWh DELTA 2 or DELTA 3 leaves room to spare.

How many solar panels do I need?

For a 1kWh model, plan on 400W to 500W of panels. Since Kenya gets 4 to 6 kWh of sun per square metre a day, that refills it on a clear day.

How long does a solar generator take to charge?

It depends on the panels and the sun. With 1,000W of solar, EcoFlow says the DELTA 3 Plus fills in about 70 minutes, while the DELTA 3 Classic takes about 2.5 hours on 500W.

Can I add more battery later?

Yes, on several models. The DELTA 3 Plus expands to 5kWh, the DELTA Pro 3 to 12kWh and the RIVER 3 Plus to 858Wh.
