A 14 inch Dell workstation for engineers, analysts and heavy office users
The Dell Pro Max 14 (model MC14250) is the 14 inch laptop in Dell Pro Max, the performance range that took over from Dell’s Precision mobile workstations. It puts an H-series Intel Core Ultra processor, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a wired network port into a 14 inch body that starts at 1.79kg. Our configuration has an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 512GB SSD and a 14 inch 1920 x 1200 screen, and it comes with Windows 11 Pro.
It is part of our range of business laptops.
What you get
Intel Core Ultra 7 255H
The Core Ultra 7 255H has 16 cores and 16 threads and boosts up to 5.1GHz, with Intel Arc 140T graphics and an NPU for AI features built in. H-series chips run at higher power than the U-series processors found in most thin business laptops, so this one holds its speed through large Excel models, code builds, big photo batches, CAD and GIS viewers and long data jobs.
16GB of memory you can upgrade
Most thin laptops now solder their memory to the board. The Pro Max 14 uses a removable LPCAMM2 module instead, so you get fast LPDDR5X memory at 7467 MT/s and can still move to 32GB or 64GB later by swapping the module. Storage is a 512GB NVMe SSD in a single M.2 slot, and Dell offers this model with drives up to 2TB. Ask us before you buy parts so we can confirm what fits.
14 inch 1920 x 1200 screen
The 16:10 screen gives you more vertical space than a standard Full HD laptop, which helps with documents, code and long spreadsheets. Dell’s base panel is anti-glare and rated at 300 nits. Dell also builds this model with a touch panel at the same resolution, so ask us which one your unit has if touch matters to you.
Ports for docks, monitors and cabled networks
Dell lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports at 40Gbps, both with charging and DisplayPort output, two USB-A 5Gbps ports (one with PowerShare for charging a phone while the laptop sleeps), a full HDMI 2.1 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a headset jack and a wedge-shaped lock slot. It charges over USB-C, so one Thunderbolt dock can power the laptop and run your monitors, keyboard and network from a single cable.
Wireless, camera and security
Dell builds it with either Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, plus Bluetooth. The 1080p camera has a privacy shutter and dual microphones for Teams and Zoom. There is a TPM 2.0 chip for BitLocker and Windows security, and Dell rates the chassis against the MIL-STD 810H durability tests. Fingerprint and IR face login are optional on this model, so ask us if you need either.
Size and weight
It measures 313 x 227mm, about 19mm thick at the back, with a starting weight of 1.79kg and a 72Wh battery. That is heavier than a thin office laptop, but light for a machine with an H-series processor.
Who it suits
The Pro Max 14 suits engineers, architects and survey teams who open CAD and GIS files, developers, data analysts, finance teams running heavy models, and managers who want one laptop that stays quick for years. IT teams will like the upgradeable memory and the Ethernet and Thunderbolt ports. If your work is mainly email, Office and browser systems, the Dell Latitude 5450 does the job for less. This configuration uses the graphics built into the processor, so it is not the pick for heavy 3D rendering or GPU computing.
Operating system
It comes with Windows 11 Pro, which adds BitLocker encryption, Remote Desktop hosting and the tools IT teams use to join company domains and manage devices.
How it compares
The HP EliteBook 8 G1i 14 is the closest rival from HP, with the same Core Ultra 7 255H in a lighter body. The Dell Latitude 7450 is the slimmer Dell for people who travel more than they compute. If you want Dell’s current mainstream business laptop rather than the performance line, look at the Dell Pro 14.

Looking after it
Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts are common, because a surge when power returns can damage the charger and the board. An H-series chip pushes out more heat, so work on a hard surface and keep the vents underneath and at the back clear. If the laptop stays docked most of the day, Dell’s power settings let you limit charging so the battery lasts longer. Clean the keyboard with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.
Works well with
The Dell KM3322W keyboard and mouse gives you a full desk setup, and the Logitech MX Anywhere 3S is a compact mouse for travel. The UGREEN Swivel Laptop Stand raises the screen to eye level and helps airflow during long sessions.
