Dell Pro 14 PC14250

A current 14 inch Dell business laptop for office teams

The Dell Pro 14 (model PC14250) is the mainstream 14 inch laptop in Dell’s new Dell Pro range, the name Dell now uses for the business laptops it used to sell as Latitude. It keeps the full set of ports, including Ethernet, and the upgradable parts that offices liked about the Latitude. We have it in two configurations: an Intel Core 5 120U with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, and an Intel Core 7 class version with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Both have a 14 inch 1920 x 1200 screen and ship with Ubuntu Linux.

It is part of our range of business laptops.

What you get

Core 5 or Core 7 processor

The Core 5 120U has 10 cores and 12 threads and boosts up to 5.0GHz. That is plenty for Office, email, browser-based systems, accounting software and video calls. The 16GB version steps up to a Core 7 class chip for people who keep many apps and tabs open, work in large spreadsheets or edit photos now and then. Dell offers this model with more than one Core 7 class chip, so ask us to confirm the exact processor before you order.

Memory and storage

The Core 5 version has 8GB of DDR5 memory and the Core 7 version has 16GB. The Pro 14 uses standard memory slots and Dell lists configurations up to 64GB, so you can add memory later instead of replacing the laptop. Both versions have a 512GB NVMe SSD, which keeps start-up and file opening quick and gives enough room for years of documents.

14 inch 16:10 screen

The screen is 14 inches with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a matte anti-glare finish. The 16:10 shape is a little taller than normal Full HD, so you see more rows of a spreadsheet.

Ports for a real office

Dell lists two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports (one Thunderbolt 4 and one USB 3.2), a full HDMI 2.1 port, a wired Ethernet port and a headset jack. Both USB-C ports can charge the laptop and drive an external monitor, so one cable to a USB-C monitor or dock can handle power and display. The Ethernet port is useful in offices with cabled networks or weak Wi-Fi.

Wireless, webcam and security

Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth are built in, depending on the configuration. The webcam has a physical privacy shutter, which many IT teams now ask for. There is also a lock slot for a cable lock.

Size and weight

The Pro 14 weighs about 1.36kg and is about 20mm thick. That is light enough to carry between home, the office and client sites every day.

Who it suits

The Core 5 version suits admin staff, sales teams, schools and NGOs that want a current Dell business laptop at a sensible price. The Core 7 version, with its 16GB of RAM, suits managers, accountants and anyone who runs several heavy apps at once. Teams that already use Ubuntu, and developers who want Linux out of the box, can start work on day one. If you want an AI PC with a dedicated NPU, or heavy design and engineering power, look at the options below.

Operating system

The Dell Pro 14 ships with Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is free, gets regular security updates, and runs LibreOffice, Chrome, Zoom and most web-based business systems well. If you would rather have Windows, we install Windows 11 on it before delivery. Tell us when you order.

How it compares

The Dell Latitude 5450 is the outgoing 14 inch mid-range Latitude, a good alternative if you prefer a model your IT team already knows. The Dell Latitude 3450 is the lower cost 14 inch Dell for basic office work. If you need more processing power for engineering or design software, the Dell Pro MC14250, with a Core Ultra 7 255H and vPro, is the step up. Comparing brands? The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G8 is a close 14 inch alternative.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS where power cuts are common. Keep the vents clear by working on a hard surface rather than a bed or sofa. If the laptop stays plugged in at a desk most of the day, Dell’s BIOS has a battery charge setting for mostly plugged-in use, which helps the battery last longer. Clean the keyboard with a soft brush and the screen with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

Add the Dell KM3322W keyboard and mouse for a full desk setup, or the Dell WM126 wireless mouse on its own. The UGREEN Metallic Foldable Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level for long days at a desk.

Can I add more RAM?
