ASUS Zenbook Duo UX8406

A dual-screen 14 inch laptop for editors, traders, developers and anyone who lives in many windows

The ASUS Zenbook Duo (UX8406CA) is a 14 inch laptop with two full-size OLED touchscreens, one above the other, and a detachable Bluetooth keyboard. Use it as a normal laptop with the keyboard on the lower screen, lift the keyboard off to get two stacked screens, or stand it on its kickstand side by side. The version we stock is the top configuration: Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, 32GB of memory, a 2TB SSD and Windows 11 Home.

It is part of our range of creative laptops.

What you get

Intel Core Ultra 9 285H

The Core Ultra 9 285H is an Arrow Lake H chip with 16 cores and boost speeds up to 5.4GHz. It handles photo and video editing, coding with several tools open, large Excel models and many browser windows at once. Intel Arc graphics cope with light 3D work, video timelines and casual games. A built-in NPU runs Windows AI features such as Studio Effects on the webcam.

Memory and storage

32GB of LPDDR5X memory is soldered to the board, so it cannot be upgraded, but 32GB is more than most people will need for years. The 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD sits in an M.2 slot and leaves plenty of room for video projects and photo libraries.

Two 14 inch OLED touchscreens

Both screens are 14 inch 16:10 OLED panels with 100% DCI-P3 colour and touch support. Retail listings for this Core Ultra 9, 32GB, 2TB configuration show 3K (2880 x 1800) panels at up to 120Hz. Ask us to confirm the panel on this unit. Both screens work with an ASUS pen that supports 4096 pressure levels, sold separately.

Detachable keyboard and kickstand

The full-size keyboard snaps on magnetically and connects by Bluetooth when it is off the laptop. It charges when it sits on the lower screen. The built-in kickstand holds the screens up in landscape or portrait. ScreenXpert software lets you move windows between screens with gestures and pin a virtual touchpad or keyboard when you need one.

Ports

You get two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports for charging, displays and fast drives, a USB-A port, HDMI 2.1 and a headphone jack.

Webcam, wireless and build

The Full HD webcam has an IR sensor for Windows Hello face sign-in. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in. ASUS says the laptop meets US MIL-STD 810H tests for toughness.

Size, weight and battery

ASUS lists the laptop at about 1.35kg and the keyboard at about 0.30kg, about 1.65kg together. The 75Wh battery runs two screens for a reasonable working day, and less with both at full brightness.

Who it suits

It suits video and photo editors who want the timeline on one screen and the preview on the other, developers with code and documentation side by side, traders and analysts watching dashboards, and writers who research while they type. It is also a strong travel setup for people who miss their desk monitor on the road. If you mainly browse and type, a single-screen laptop is simpler and cheaper. If you play demanding games, choose a laptop with dedicated graphics.

Operating system

It ships with Windows 11 Home. If your company needs to join the laptop to a domain or manage it centrally, you will need Windows 11 Pro. Ask us about the upgrade before you order.

How it compares

The ASUS Vivobook S14 OLED has one OLED screen, longer battery life and costs far less. The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a single-screen 2-in-1 that folds into a tablet. If you work in macOS, the MacBook Pro 14 inch M4 has a brighter single screen and longer battery life.

Full product details are on ASUS’s official site.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or UPS where power cuts are common. In the MyASUS app, turn on Battery Care Mode to stop charging at 80% if it stays plugged in at a desk. Keep the keyboard on the lower screen when you carry it, so the glass is protected and the keyboard charges. OLED screens can keep a faint image of things that stay still for a very long time, so let the screen saver and auto-hide taskbar work. Clean both screens with a dry microfibre cloth.

Works well with

The Logitech MX Anywhere 3S works on most surfaces and switches between three devices. The UGREEN 240W USB-C cable is a good spare for charging or fast drives, and the Logitech C920e webcam helps if you stand the screens upright and want a camera at a better angle.
