HP EliteBook 640 G11

A 14 inch HP EliteBook with Core Ultra and an Ethernet port, for office teams

The HP EliteBook 640 G11 is the 14 inch model in HP’s EliteBook 600 series, the more affordable end of the EliteBook family. It keeps what IT teams care about, such as a wired network port, HP’s security tools and memory you can upgrade, and moves to Intel’s Core Ultra processors with a built-in AI engine. The unit we stock has an Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 14 inch WUXGA screen.

It is part of our range of business laptops.

What you get

Intel Core Ultra 7 155U with an NPU

The Core Ultra 7 155U has 12 cores and 14 threads and boosts up to 4.8GHz. It splits work between performance cores and power-saving cores, so it stays quick in Office, ERP and finance systems while keeping battery drain low on lighter work. It also has an NPU, a small AI engine that handles jobs like background blur and noise removal on video calls without loading the main processor.

16GB DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD

Sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 memory is a comfortable amount for a full working day with Teams, Outlook, a browser full of tabs and a large spreadsheet open together. The 640 G11 has two SODIMM memory slots rather than soldered memory, so it can be expanded later. Ask us before you buy memory so we can confirm what fits. The 512GB NVMe SSD keeps start-up and file opening fast.

14 inch WUXGA screen

The 1920 x 1200 IPS screen uses a 16:10 shape, so you see more rows of a spreadsheet or more of a page than on an older Full HD laptop. It has an anti-glare finish for office lighting. HP fits several 1920 x 1200 panels to this model, from a standard 300 nit screen to brighter versions, so ask us which one this unit has.

Ports, including Ethernet

HP lists two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports for charging, docks and external monitors, two USB-A ports, a full HDMI 2.1 port, an RJ45 Ethernet port and a headset jack. You can plug straight into a cabled office network, or run monitors, keyboard and power through one Thunderbolt dock.

Wireless, webcam and security

Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are built in. HP offers 5MP webcams on this model, and many configurations add an IR camera for Windows Hello face sign-in and a fingerprint sensor, so ask us what this unit has if sign-in options matter to you. It has a TPM 2.0 chip for BitLocker encryption and HP Wolf Security, which protects the BIOS against tampering.

Size, weight and battery

HP quotes a starting weight of about 1.39kg, with a body about 17mm thick at the back. The battery is a 56Wh HP Long Life pack, and HP Fast Charge takes it to about 50 percent in 30 minutes with a 65W USB-C charger.

Who it suits

The EliteBook 640 G11 suits finance and admin staff, managers, consultants and IT departments rolling out one standard laptop across a company. The Core Ultra 7 and 16GB of RAM handle almost any office workload, and the Ethernet port matters in banks, SACCOs and offices with cabled networks. If you want HP’s newer 2025 design with Wi-Fi 7 options, look at the HP EliteBook 6 G1i 14. If budget matters more than the EliteBook extras, the HP ProBook 440 G11 is the closest ProBook.

Operating system

We install Windows 11 on it before delivery, so it is ready to use when it arrives. If you would rather run a different operating system, tell us when you order.

How it compares

The HP EliteBook 840 G10 comes from HP’s higher 800 series, with a 13th Gen Intel chip and no Ethernet port. From Dell, the Dell Latitude 5450 is the closest match, a 14 inch business laptop on the same generation of Core Ultra chips. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 4 is the ThinkPad alternative for teams that prefer Lenovo keyboards and the TrackPoint.

Looking after it

Use a surge protector or a UPS at your desk, because power that drops and comes back with a spike can damage the charger and the board. Keep the vents clear and avoid working on beds or sofas. If the laptop stays plugged in all day, turn on Battery Health Manager in HP’s BIOS so the battery is not held at full charge. Clean the body and screen with a dry microfibre cloth, and carry it in a padded sleeve.

Works well with

The HP Wireless Mouse 200 and the HP 330 Wireless Keyboard make a simple desk setup. The UGREEN Metallic Foldable Laptop Stand lifts the screen to eye level, which helps on long days at a desk.
